So, apparently we’re giving out gold stars for sitting in a space chair now?
Unless you missed it, Jeff Bezos recently sent an all-women “crew” to “space.” I’m putting a lot of things in quotes here because this epic journey lasted… wait for it… 11 minutes. That’s less time than it takes to get through the Chick-fil-A drive-thru on a Saturday.
Now look—I’m not anti-fun. I’m not even anti-space. (Shoot, I’d go if they offered snacks and let me bring my coffee.) But one of the occupants—because let’s be honest, if you don’t touch a button or fix a malfunction mid-flight, you’re not crew, you’re cargo with a view—was pop star Katy Perry.
After her feet kissed Earth again, Katy gave an interview and said, “I wanted to model courage and worthiness and fearlessness.”
Okay. Let’s pause right there.
I get the idea of wanting to inspire others. That’s great. But sitting in a glorified amusement park ride that takes you up and down faster than a Six Flags coaster? I mean, yeah—maybe a little scary. Possibly thrilling. Definitely bucket list material. But modeling worthiness?
I think we’ve stretched that word a little too far.
Because here's the thing: worthiness isn’t something you prove by doing cool stuff. It’s not measured by how brave you look in a flight suit or how many TikToks you post from the edge of the stratosphere. Our worth isn’t something we earn. It’s something we’re given.
You want to talk worthiness?
Look at the cross.
Romans 5:8 says,
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
That’s where your worth comes from. Not space rides. Not fame. Not followers. Not even being the first person to do something mildly terrifying and extremely expensive.
Jesus didn’t go on a joyride—He endured the cross. He didn’t “model courage,” He defined it. And He did it for us.
So whether you’re Katy Perry on a rocket, a mom trying to survive Monday, or someone just wondering if you matter—you do. Not because of what you’ve done, but because of who He is.
And that? That’s a journey worth taking.
